You’ll find it on the west side of the highway. So if you’re coming from Playa del Carmen, you’ll need to make a U-turn at the next crossing once you spot the cenote on your right.
If you rely on a GPS system or a map application, a simple search for “Cenote Azul” will guide you straight to the cenote’s parking lot.
⚠ Remember, we’re referring to the Azul Cenote of Riviera Maya, not the Cenote Azul of Bacalar – another wonder about 2.5 hours to the south.

How to Get to the Cenote Azul?
No matter how you decide to get there, the key is to arrive early to beat the crowds and enjoy the Blue Cenote in all its glory.
By Car
If driving from Playa del Carmen, you must take Federal Highway 307 heading south. You’ll be on the road for about 20 minutes until you spot the Blue Cenote on your right. Since it’s located on the west side of the highway, you’ll need to drive past the cenote and make a U-turn at the next intersection. After the U-turn, you can enter the cenote’s parking lot.
If you’re coming from Tulum, you’ll take the same Federal Highway 307 but head north towards Playa del Carmen. In this case, the cenote will be on your left. The entrance to the parking lot is easily visible and well-signposted.
Having your own or a rented car allows you to arrive and leave at your own pace, but remember that parking is limited and can fill up quickly, especially on the busiest days.
By Colectivo
If you don’t have a car, don’t worry, you can still get to the Blue Cenote quickly and inexpensively using local public transportation. These colectivos pick up and drop off passengers along Federal Highway 307.
To catch a Colectivo, go to the Colectivo station in Playa del Carmen or Tulum and look for one heading towards the Blue Cenote. Colectivos pass regularly, so you won’t have to wait long. Once you get on, tell the driver to drop you off at the Blue Cenote. When you finish your visit, you can catch another colectivo back from the same spot where you were dropped off.
Other Transport
If you prefer a more comfortable option and don’t mind spending more, you could opt for a taxi or a private transport service. A taxi from Playa del Carmen or Tulum can cost around USD20-30 each way, depending on the season and the time of day.

During the early morning hours, you’re less likely to come across large groups of tourists, allowing you to explore the cenote at your own pace.
